Severe flooding along the border with Ukraine on 25-26 July caused considerable damage in Maramures.
Funds have been allocated to rebuilding houses washed away in Maramures and Suceava Countiess.
One of the worst hit areas was the Vaser Valley where large sections of trackbed and bridges were
lost to floodwaters. A campaign has been established to raise funds to reopen the line which is not
only unique as the last remaining true steam-hauled forestry railway, but is an essential lifeline
to the people and communities of this remote mountain valley.

HORSE CART BAN
Bureaucrats in Bucharest have banned horse carts from all main roads in Romania.
Despite over 750,000 carts registered and half of the population working in rural agriculture
this ban appears to have been hastily put in place to enable the few to speed from A to B in their fast cars.
